NRMA Insurance
NRMA Insurance is a unit of Insurance Australia Group, an Australia-based insurance and financial services provider. NRMA Insurance is independent of NRMA (National Roads and Motorists' Association) Motoring and Services, the mutual organisation providing roadside assistance, vehicle inspections, travel advisories, and other similar services in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. However, NRMA Insurance and NRMA Motoring and Services are related companies which share a common history.
The Australian National Roads Association (NRA), forerunner of the NRMA, was formed in 1920 as a pressure group pushing for the improvement of New South Wales roads. After four years, the NRA was reorganised into the NRMA. A year later, NRMA Insurance was formed, then re-established as a private mutual company in 1926. The product offerings of NRMA Insurance - motoring insurance and household policies - became incentives that served to swell the NRMA's ranks.
NRMA Insurance fully demutualised in 2000 to form two separate units - National Roads and Motorists' Association Ltd, and NRMA Insurance Ltd. As a demutualised company, NRMA Insurance could distribute surplus funds to shareholders without adversely affecting the price of NRMA Insurance products. NRMA Insurance later became known as the Insurance Australia Group.
NRMA Insurance offers eight kinds of insurance. Its various kinds of car insurance cover damage done to your car, damage the policyholder caused to someone else's vehicle, claims filed against the policyholder due to an accident, protection of vintage cars, transport accident insurance, and insurance for a company's fleet of vehicles.
NRMA Insurance also offers motorcycle insurance, insurance for the policyholder's home and its contents, health insurance, boat insurance, and business insurance for employees. The caravan insurance package by NRMA Insurance ensures that a policyholder is fully protected when he takes his mobile home, caravan, or trailer on the road when he goes on vacation, or even if he uses it as a full-time residence. NRMA Insurance also offers travel insurance, which covers single travellers or entire families. This includes a medical and dental plan and compensation for lost luggage, delayed travel, and legal claims against the policyholder. Those seeking assistance can access the service via a 24-hour international emergency hotline.
