The four multi-car pile-ups at Bulli Tops this week could cost insurance companies more than $500,000.
The NRMA received 12 claims totalling more than $100,000 within the first 24 hours after the accidents. The company's Wollongong retail manager David McFarlane (pictured) said 10 of the 12 claims received were for cars that had been written off. Mr McFarlane refused to be drawn on the cost of the spectacular accidents but sources estimated claims could total more than $500,000.Three people were injured in the four crashes which involved a total of 48 vehicles, including a petrol tanker.
