Bird's-eye View

Depending on how you look at it Nissan is either about to revolutionise the way we park cars or save insurance companies a motser on small claims.
The company is about to offer an option on its Elgrand model in Japan and American market Infiniti EX35.Called the Around View Monitor, it gives drivers a synthesised bird's-eye view of the car and its surroundings using four ultra wide-angle cameras mounted on either side front and rear. A screen inside the car displays the real time images and the views front to rear alternate with the gear selection, giving drivers a comprehensive view of their car and, more importantly, its surroundings. Distances to obstacles are shown as coloured graphics and an audible beep warns of approach to fixed or solid objects. Will it come here? We are still waiting to hear from Nissan Australia on that one.
